Behind the scenes

We promise to improve our communication frequency :-) Some project news:
Our Brazilian project is developing nicely and steadily, the TGHF support project is continuing as well :-) News of other project developments will be posted as soon as we can. Here is a hint.

We are pretty busy developing and improving the backend of TickerTXT. Here are some examples underlying technologies and services:
  • HubDB (working title) is a very clever, yet simple connector database using Google App Engine.
  • LoungeDB uses hubDB and is emulating a lot of CouchDB functionality again based on Google App Engine. Other than being a TickerTXT core technology, LoungeDB has a potential to be used as backup tool for Lotus Notes and CouchDB...
  • TrackerTXT will be part of a series of TickerTXT apps mixing text communication, a ticker stream including geo referencing.
  • Tools for project management which include a ticker-based traffic light which is really fun to use...
  • FairGAIM which allows to easily share "local" SMS dial-in numbers globally among all projects who have or need a SMS dial-in numbers for their applications and services.
If you would like to join our TickerTXT circle of friends on Google Plus, send us your Google ID to to request an invite - please indicate the request in the subject line. We won't use your email for anything else than those invites...

"the glass half full" is powered by TrackerTXT

Based on our ticker, Herwart and Ralph have developed an iPhone app to track the journey of Wiebke and Kalyan on their "the glass half full | because it matters what we measure" venture around India - also abbreviated TGHF among the supporters. We have called it TrackerTXT for now :-)

TickerTXT - marketplace communities for anybody, anywhere and anytime

Rural commodity exchanges via SMS

TickerTXT offers micro-trade exchanges and logistic solutions. Because of the easy deployment and very low access barriers, these exchanges offer revenue opportunities for very poor, initially rural agro-economies around the world. Such group application for market participants can be adapted to each country or region based on the regional habits and customs, their trade language and implicit market rules.

Micro-trading futures

TickerTXT allows to announce actions, or in trade terms, allows to sell your produce as futures. Therefore where action used to be opportunistic and improvised, selling a few days ahead permits to trade transport pickup deals - people suddenly can plan and coordinate. This work delegation using economy of scales formerly was only accessible to capital rich market players. TickerTXT now facilitates future trading among local market participants like small farmers, traders, transporteurs and SME’s.

Solution for inefficient markets

Initially we will concentrate on dysfunctional rural markets. In economies which are heavily dependent on agriculture, there are about 110,000 small farms per one million people. Small farms have an estimated turnover of 250$ per month each which equals 27,500,000$ per month per million population. UN and Worldbank estimate that 50% of the agro-produce in poor regions is not traded, 30% of the total is wasted. This estimate is conservative especially for poor, but potentially fertile regions, where farmers reported up to 60% waste.

TickerTXT aims to increase the production to market ratio significantly thereby allowing substantial economic gains for market participants. Productivity and revenue gains will further boost production and trade and consequently the income of the TickerTXT exchange members.

Wherever costs occur because of lack of transparency and coordination for larger scale "groups" of people, TickerTXT can be easily deployed to provide productivity improvements on an unprecedented scale.

TickerTXT news soon :-)

Yea, we have been blog lazy over the past few months.  In a movie DVD, the blog would be like the "making of", only that we struggled about what to publish and what not...

Anyway, we'll soon launch an updated site, with finally some more explanation about what we do.  :-)  Happy to see you back here early december :-)
